Colombia Crisis Worst in Hemisphere

BOGOTÁ, Colombia – Drug cartels and decades of guerilla warfare continue to plague Colombia. Recent reports from the United Nations call the situation the third worst humanitarian crisis in the world. Associated Press reports that more than 2 million people have been displaced and tribes of Indians threatened with extinction. According to UN Undersecretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Jan Engeland, “Colombia is, therefore, by far the biggest humanitarian catastrophe in the Western Hemisphere.”
