Ohio and Ecuador Churches Lead Medical Clinics

Ohio and Quito Medical Teams in Action

Volunteers from Quito and Ohio lead medical outreach in Quito.

QUITO, Ecuador. CMI partner churches Fairhaven (Dayton, OH) and Hudson Chapel (Hudson, OH) have led two short term medical team outreaches in Ecuador in 2008. In February, a team led by Fairhaven treated 1,100 patients and saw 400 profess first time commitments to Christ. A second team led by Hudson traveled to Quito from June 20-30. Partnering with people from the Quito Encounter with God churches, the teams from Fairhaven and Hudson worked side-by-side with local believers to care for those without means for medical care. It is this type of partnership that has the greatest benefit to the Encounter with God church multiplication efforts in Quito. As Obed Burgos, Senior Pastor of the Valle Church said, “These medical teams do not benefit our churches directly [because the Encounter churches are largely comprised of middle and upper-middle class people], but our churches are being blessed in great ways as our people are serving alongside the U.S. teams.”

United States. In May, CMI, Fairhaven Church (Dayton, OH), and Hudson Chapel (Hudson, OH) were pleased to host the four senior pastors and two spouses from the Encounter with God churches in Quito, Ecuador for a 10 day visit to Texas, Ohio and Arizona. The visit was an opportunity to introduce the key leadership of these churches to friends of CMI and an opportunity for the Fairhaven and Hudson congregations to see and hear from the people directly impacted by their partnership with Church Ministries International. During their time in the States, the pastors joined CMI for a special dessert reception in Dallas and a Missions Leader Executive Luncheon in Phoenix, AZ. The trip also provided a chance for the Quito pastors to learn more about the ministry dynamics of CMI and churches in North America. However, the most valuable outcome came about as extended time together provided for opportunities to deepen our friendship and commitment to one another.

SANTIAGO, Chile. On March 11, the Cordillera Church in Santiago, Chile hosted a Thanksgiving Service celebrating the 78th Anniversary of the Chilean Air Force. The leading generals of the air force were in attendance including the Commander in Chief of the Chilean Air Force, General Ricardo Ortega Perrier. The event was organized by the Evangelical Christian Aviators Ministry. The general later expressed that he was “profoundly moved” by the message during the service that called for maintaining the unity of the family. Though not an evangelical Christian, the general said that the testimony of the evangelicals in society stood out and he called on others to join them in defending the values that sustain Chilean society.

QUITO, Ecuador. On February 21, David Smith, Senior Pastor of the Fairhaven Church in Dayton, Ohio, led a series of workshops for the leaders of the Quito Encounter with God Churches. The day began with a morning breakfast with the senior pastors of the four churches. It continued with a workshop on leading ministry teams that was open to all of the pastoral staff from the Quito churches. It concluded with an evening seminar attended by more than 300 lay leaders from the four churches. His final message – “10 Things Your Pastor Would Like You to Know” – was both challenging and inspirational to all that attended.
